London, ENGLAND: Prince Harry and American actress Meggan Markle on Monday announced their engagement, with the two set to get married in Spring 2018 and will live at Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace in London.
Harry,33, who is the fifth in line to the throne had been dating Markle,36, for the past one year; with many anticipating another Royal wedding after his brother Prince William tied the knot with long-term girlfriend Catherine Middleton on 29 April 2011 at Westminster Abbey in London.
According to the BBC, only the Queen and “other close members of his family” initially knew of the engagement, which took place in London earlier this month.
In a statement, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip said they were ‘delighted for the couple and wish them every happiness.”
The couple is set to appear for a photo outside Kensington Palace on Monday afternoon and will take part in a broadcast interview in the evening, this is according to the BBC.
In a joint statement, Prince William and Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton said:
“We are very excited for Harry and Meghan. It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together’. Their father Prince Charles said he was ‘thrilled’ and ‘very happy indeed’ for them.”
Meghan is famously known for her role in the American Drama Suits and was once married to film producer Trevor Engelson after dating for seven years; the pair divorced two years later.
Her father is white and mother is African-American.
Through a statement, Ms Markles parents also wished the two happiness:
” Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.”
