Four people injured as Mikindani, Banglaa youths clash

Mombasa,KENYA: At least four youths were injured during a clash between two rival groups in Mikindani Changamwe on  Saturday.

Police have also arrested two suspects in connection with the attack and are helping police with investigations.

Two groups of youths from Mikindani and Bangla slum clashed and started attacking each other with knives over what police said they had internal differences.

The two groups of youths between 12 and 14 armed with knives and machetes have been studying in Kwashehe primary school in Mikindani and completed their exams last month, police said.

Unconfirmed reports indicate the clash was occasioned by a football match rivalry.

The four injured were treated at Mikindani medical center and discharged.

Mombasa county police commander Johnstone Ipara said the two arrested are helping police with investigations.

Police officers from Jomvu responded and later own they were joined by GSU officers in the 9pm incident.

“On information police rushed to the scene and bring the situation under control. We have spoken to Bangla residents and they assured us that they will point out all criminals, we won’t allow some elements to destabilize peace in the county,” said Ipara.

Meanwhil, police are investigating the recovery of a gun from suspected robbers who had tried to rob a businesswoman at Kibarani, Changamwe.

Police said a berreta pistol was recovered after the suspected robbers escaped police arrest.
