Mombasa, KENYA: Officials of the Muslim for Human Rights have said they will not appear before the NGO coordination board.

The officials who were speaking during a briefing on Monday said they would be seeking legal advice and they would not appear before the board.

The director of the NGO coordination board Fazul Mohamed had on Monday summoned 3 NGO’S among them MUHURI,KATIBA institute, and Inuka Africa to appear before the board on Monday over what they termed as non-disclosure.

According to Father Gabriel Dolan a board Member of MUHURI, the timing of the summon was questionable putting into consideration that they were required to appear before the board on Monday which is the final day for filing of petitions challenging the results of the October 26th presidential elections.

“Katiba institute is ignoring this because it is not an NGO and it does not fall under the mandate of Fazul” Dolan said

“Muhuri is taking legal advise but Muhuri will not be in attendance”  Father Dolan added.

The organization has said the summon is linked to a petition that had earlier been filed by the MUHURI chairperson Khelef Khalifa seeking to postpone the October 26th elections.

However, the Supreme Court failed to hear the petition after only two of the judges showed up during the petition hearing date which had been set just a day before the October 26th election.

The Board has only said it would proceed with investigations after the officials of summoned NGO’s appear before the board.
