Kamworor stars in New York Marathon as Keitany stumble

New York, USA: Geoffrey Kamworor won his maiden marathon race on Sunday when he clocked 2 hours, 10 minutes and 53 seconds to finish first in the New York Marathon.

Kamworor, two-time World Half Marathon bettered his 2015 performance where he finished second behind compatriot Stanley Biwott, this time round beating Wilson Kipsang who settled second in 2:10:56.

The triumph saw Kamworor bagged US$ 100,000 (Sh 10million) while Kipsang got US$ 60,000(Sh6 million).

Elsewhere, Kenyan Mary Keitany failed to defend her title after she was beaten by American Shalane Flanagan who clocked 2 hours, 26 minutes and 53 seconds to cross the line.

Fresh from winning the London Marathon in a world record time of 2:17:01 in April, Keitany was hopeful of retaining the New York Marathon for the fourth time running only to finish second in 2:27:54.
