26 killed in Texas church shooting

Sutherland Springs,TEXAS:26 people were killed after a gunman opened fire on worshipers in a church in Sutherland Springs area of Texas.

According to the New York Times, the incident happened when the gunman stormed the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs and shot and the worshipers indefinitely killing 26 and injuring more than 20.

The paper also reported that 23 bodies were found inside the church with 3 being found outside the church while one died while being rushed to hospital.

The gunman has been identified as 26-year-old Devin Patrick Kelley, who according to eyewitnesses was wearing a bulletproof vest when he stormed the church.

Reports also indicate that the suspect had once served at an Airforce base in New York, but was discharged on grounds of bad conduct after assaulting his wife and child.

The motive of the attack has not yet been unveiled but reports also indicate that a local shot at the attacker with a rifle before he was later found dead in his car in a neighboring county.

US president Donald Trump condemned the attack saying the attack was as a result of a mentally deranged individual and not a gun problem.Trump who is currently in Japan also expressed his condolences to the victims.

In 2015, 9 people were killed after a gunman attacked a predominately black attended church in Charleston.
