Kilifi,KENYA:Two adult candidates have failed to show up for the KCPE exams in Kilifi.

The two adult candidates out of 82 registered adult candidates could not be reached on phone .

A total of eighty two registered adult candidates have joined a total of 30,184 pupils to sit  for the KCPE.

Addressing the press at Kilifi Primary school where they are sitting the exams, Kilifi North Sub County Adult and Continuing education officer Asunta Migwi said the number of adult registered candidates has reduced as compared to last year.

“Last year we registered 144 candidates and 143 did the KCPE exams as we could not find one of them,” Migwi said.

“This year eighty candidates (35 men and 47 women) will be doing their KCPE examination,” she added.

Migwi pointed out lack of birth certificates as one of the reasons behind the drop in the number of registered candidates.

She said most students to do not want to provide a letter from their tutor confirming they have been attending classes.

“Most of our students are in the interior and they conduct their tuition where they are,” Migwi said.

“We always ask them to bring letters from their teachers so that we can know they were attending their lessons before we register them but some of them fail to meet the requirement,” she added.

On Monday, Kilifi County Director of Education Moses Karati said the candidates would be absorbed in 594 Centre’s across the County.

He said those  who have been undertaking school feeding program in school will continue having it until they finish their exams.

“Those schools in Magarini, Ganze and some parts of Malindi Sub counties that have been on school feeding program will continue with it to the end of these exams,” Karati said.

He said out of the 30, 814 KCPE candidates, six are prisoners serving their jail sentences at the Malindi GK prison.
