Mombasa, KENYA: A man was on Monday charged in a Mombasa court for allegedly assaulting a female voter during the election day.
Fredrick Ochieng Omondi is accused of assaulting Kawila Kulela Joseph by occasioning her actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that Mr.Omondi assaulted Kawila at about 10:00 am when he heard her telling a neighbour that she was preparing to go and vote in Kisauni at noon.
He pleaded not guilty before Mombasa principle magistrate Henry Nyakweba.
Court also refereed the accused person to the election court to face election offence charges.
He is accused of threatening voters not to participate in October fresh presidential polls.
According to police Mr.Omondi was quoted uttering the following words “if you dare vote I will kill you.”
He allegedly uttered the said words on the October 26 in Likoni area.
