Nairobi, KENYA: National women’s volleyball team Malkia Strikers is scheduled to jet back in country on Monday from Yaounde Cameroon where they finished second in the Volleyball Africa Nations championship which climaxed at the weekend.

Despite losing to the hosts by straight sets in the Saturday’s final, the Japheth Mula coached side together with the former qualified for next year’s World championship to be held in Japan.

Malkia Strikers who were the defending champions won all their group matches without dropping a single set including beating bigwigs Egypt 3-0 (25-23, 25-22, 25-19) in the semi-finals.

They however relinquished the title they won last year in Nairobi by falling short at the hands of Cameroon who benefitted from their home turf coupled with huge home support to triumph 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 29-27) in the finals.

In-spite of the defeat Kenya bagged individual gongs thanks to Edith Wisa and Mercy Moim who won the Best Blocker and Best Attacker accolades respectively.
