Nairobi,KENYA:Orange Democratic Movement members of parliament have termed the joint parliamentary committee on electoral laws as illegitimate .
In a media briefing led by Ugunja legislator Opiyo Wandayi said that the committee was formed by house business committee which is illegitimate too because in the first place it lacks the membership of NASA legislators .
He reiterated that the committee goes against the house’ standing orders and there is need for Kenyans and other stakeholders to disregard the committee by desisting from giving their input to it.
“Whatever business is going on at county hall is something alien to standing orders of this house. It is indeed abuse of office ,on the part of members of parliament ,we denounce it and we ask Kenyans to disregard it.”Wandayi said
Wandayi said that the committee lacks mandate to kick start the constitutional amendments especially electoral laws which they accused Jubilee of clandestinely amending it in order to befit them.
They condemned the bid of championing of stripping the IEBC chair his powers terming as a move as ill informed.
He said that the opposition will fight the report when it will be tabled in parliament to make sure it does not go through insisting that such laws are extremely oppressive to any electoral process in the current democracy .
