Kenya Power staff charged in court for receiving bribe for reconnection

Mombasa, KENYA: A Kenya Power company employee was on Friday charged in Mombasa court for allegedly receiving a bribe in order to re -connect electricity to a resident in Mombasa.

Maina Matheka Mbatha working as KPC agent, is alleged to have received a bribe of sh.3,000 from a resident in Mishomoroni area within Mombasa county before he re- connected electricity to his meter box.

Court Heard that on 20th day of September at Mishomoroni area in Kisauni Sub County being an agent of Kenya power as meter reader, Mr. Mbatha requested a financial advantage of sh.3,000 from Abdulrahma Maro so as to re- connect electricity in his meter box.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Mombasa principle magistrate Henry Nyakweba.

Mr.Nyakweba ordered the accused person released on a surety bond of Ksh.200,000.

Case set for hearing on 1st February 2018.
