Kwale,KENYA:Residents of Kwale county are reeling in shock after a 25 year old man decided to commit suicide in Kwale town area on Friday.
The body of Rashid Juma was found by his mother dangling from the roof of their house at around 1pm.
According to relatives the two had earlier shared a lunchtime meal after which the mother left for the well to fetch water leaving her son alone at home, .
According to an uncle, Mr. Suleima Pore, the deceased had been ailing for a long time and was always under the care of family members.
“He was always under the close watch of the family due to the complicated nature of his illness,” said Mr. Pore.
A village elder Mr. Hamisi Bakari confirmed the incident saying when the mother arrived back home from the well she was shocked to find her son’s lifeless body dangling from the roof.
Mr. Bakari advised locals to seek help when faced with difficulties rather than resorting to extreme measures like suicide.
“People whose only recourse is suicide are reluctant to seek advice which can help prevent such cases,” said Ms. Dodo.
Police visited the home but were restrained from taking the body to the mortuary by family members who requested to be allowed to perform burial rites in accordance with the Islamic faith.
The incident has left local residents in shock coming just three days after a similar one in the town.
