Nairobi, KENYA: The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission IEBC has said the fresh presidential elections will now be held on Thursday 26th October.

Through a statement shared on it’s official Twitter platform signed by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Thursday, the Commission said the decision was reached upon after the Supreme Court delivered it’s judgement on Wednesday which impacted on the preparations.

“There is no doubt that the judgement impacts on the elections preparations and in particular technology to be deployed.” Read part of the update.

“In order to ensure that the Commission is fully prepared to deliver an election that meets the standards set out by the Supreme Court, we wish to notify the public and all stakeholders that the fresh presidential election shall now be held on Thursday, 26th October 2017.

The Commission shall issue further details on the state of preparedness tommorow, 22nd September 2017.” Concluded the Statement.

This comes after IEBC had earlier set the date of the fresh Presidential Election on 17th October so as not to interfere with the KCPE and KCSE exam calendar as advised by the Ministry of Education.
