Rooney given two-year ban over drink driving

London, ENGLAND: Former England captain Wayne Rooney has been banned for two years from driving after he was found guilty for driving under the influence of alcohol.

Rooney who appeared before the court on Monday pleaded guilty to the chargers and was given a 12-month community order and will have to undertake 100 hours of community service.

According to reports by British media, the 31-year-old was arrested by police at around 2am on the morning of 1 September, having been pictured at a bar in Manchester the night before.

Rooney’s who left Manchester United for his boyhood club Everton this summer is also likely to be fined by his team two weeks’ wages amounting to around £300,000.
