Kwale, KENYA: Detectives in Ukunda,Kwale county are pursuing three angles to determine who the gunmen behind the death of the two police officers are, that is; a terrorists attack,MRC and politics.
A police source aware of the investigations, on Monday told Baraka FM on condition of anonymity that top investigators from the region had settled on these three angles.
“St Paul ACK church where the two police officers were killed is in Ibisa area where hundreds of al shabaab returnees who had trained in Somalia have sneaked back,” added the source.
The area is also home of MRC members who had been pushing for secession of Coast region with the slogan Pwani si Kenya,[Coast is not part of Kenya.]
Police have launched a crackdown in the area all the way to Shimba hills, in an attempt to recover the stolen firearms.
The attackers are in possession of four loaded guns now.
Coast region police boss Larry Kieng said police were doing all it takes to recover the stolen firearms from the assailants.
“The four gunmen had two guns before killing police officers, now they have taken two firearms from slain police officers, you can imagine the danger outside there,” said police boss.
He asked the members of the public to volunteer information, which will lead to arrest of the attackers.
The attackers confronted the two officers manning the church gate and shot at them before escaping on motorcycles with their loaded guns.
