Nairobi, KENYA: Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i,who is also the Acting Interior CS on Monday released the dates for the 2017 KCPE and KCSE exams.

Addressing the press in Nairobi on Monday, Matiang’i said the exams will take place in October and November just as they had earlier been scheduled to take place.

“The Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination (KCSE) will begin on October 23 with the oral tests while the written exam will take place between November 6 and 29, 2017.” Said Matiang’i.

He also added that the Kenya Certificate of Primary Examination (KCPE) candidates will sit their exams on November 1 and 2. The rehearsals will be done on October 31.

Regarding the fresh presidential elections interfering with the exam timetable, Matiang’i said that they are currently in consultation with IEBC to have the elections held a week before the exams, most probably on October 17.

Matiang’i added that if that were not to happen, this would affect the Ministry of Education’s annual calendar and offset events such as release of the examination dates, marking of exams and placement of Form One students in 2018.

The Supreme Court led by Chief Justice David Maraga last week declared the results of the presidential elections held on August 8th null and void and ordered for fresh presidential elections in 60 days.
