Mombasa,KENYA:The driver of a vehicle ferrying bhang with a street value of sh.600,000 surprised police officers in Kilifi county after he jumped into the Indian ocean to avoid arrest.

According to the Kilifi police boss Alexander Makau   a probox vehicle which was transporting the bhang from Mombasa to  an unknown destination  was flagged down by police officers manning the Mtwapa weighbridge  for a routine check up when the driver jumped out of the vehicle and jumped into the sea escaping police arrest.

He said this prompted police to check the vehicle and that is when they found the  bhang.

The vehicle was towed to Mtwapa police station as police intensified a  search for the driver who escaped.

“This happened at around 5 pm,the officers who were in their routine check stopped the driver for normal check,he jumped out of the window and escaped,”said police the boss.

Makau told Baraka FM on phone that the 3120 rolls were packed in five bags of 100 kgs .

He warned that police are on high alert in the busy Malindi highway to arrest anyone conducting illegal business along the highway .
