Mombasa, KENYA: Likoni businessmen are counting losses after a mysterious fire gutted millions of business premises located at corner police in the sub-county, just a few metres from Likoni police station Monday morning.

Eyewitness and business people at the premises disclosed that they tried to put out the mysterious fire after it started at around 2 am, but they were overpowered and that’s when they alerted the neighbours who arrived in large numbers to help put off the fire.

Unfortunately, they did not manage to recover anything; as everything was razed to ashes.

Witnesses say the County Fire brigade  arrived later in an attempt to put out the fire but they water tanks were empty.

One of the businessmen who owns a shop and a hotel, who identified himself as pastor Gitonga said he lost sh 500,000 in total.

“The schools reopens next week,I had saved for my children but now I have lost everything,” said Mr. Gitonga.

Fortunately, all the neighbours staying close to the premises escaped unhurt.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established.
