Man jailed for 10 years over possessing terrorist-related weapons

Mombasa,KENYA: A man found guilty of possessing weapons related to terrorism was on Friday sentenced to 10 years in prison by a Mombasa court.

Abdiaziz Abdullahi Abdi was found guilty of being in possession of six hand grenades, five AK 47 rifle magazine and 270 rounds of ammunition.

He was found in possession of the above items in Changamwe on the 11th March 2014.

Mr. Abdi will also serve another four years for an attempting to commit terrorism, four years for being in possession of a firearm without a firearm certificate and  four years for being in possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate contrary to the firearm act.

Mombasa senior principal Francis Kyiambia however said the sentence will run concurrently.

Mr. Kyiambia further said the court considered a period of 3 years and 5 months, the time Mr.Abdi spent in police custody.

Court also ruled that Mr.Abdi will not serve for the offense of having stolen property and being in possession of explosives.

Mr.Kyiambia said it was because the accused had already served presentence.
