England’s great Wayne Rooney retires from international football

London, ENGLAND; England’s all-time goal scorer Wayne Rooney has announce his retirement from international football.

The 31-year old who returned to his boyhood club Everton from Manchester United this summer scored 53 goals for England in 119 appearances.

Rooney made his debut as an 18-year-old at Euro 2004, and his last international match as the England captain came in November’s 3-0 victory over Scotland at Wembley.

In his 17 years at Manchester United, Rooney won Premier League title five times, the FA Cup once, the League Cup three times, the Champions League once and the Europa League last season.

He also netted a record 253 goals at Old Trafford, making him the highest goal scorer for Manchester United.
