Suspected killer of foreign Swiss couple detained for 14 days

Mombasa, KENYA: Mombasa court has detained a man suspected to have murdered two foreigners in Mombasa for two weeks, pending investigations.

Geofrey Mwaki aka Jeff was arrested on Monday and booked at Bamburi police station before he was arraigned in Shanzu court on Tuesday, following the death of the Swiss couple in Mombasa last week.

In a sworn affidavit, investigative officer Edward Mwandihi told court that Mr.Mwaki is suspected to have murdered Paul Werner Borner and Marianne Borner.

“The suspect jointly with others not before court, murdered Swiss citizens at there villa 18061 and damped the bodies at Kiembeni area on the night of 20th August 2017,” Mr.Mwandihi told court.

Mr.Mwaki was the care taker of the deceased and police have said that his detention will assist in the arrest of other suspects believed to be hiding in Nairobi and Western region.

Furthermore, the court also heard that the items stolen from the two before they were murdered were not yet recovered.

Chief magistrate Diana Mochache ordered police to detain Mr.Mwaki for two weeks at Bamburi police station, pending investigations.

Ms Mochache also directed police to take the suspect to Coast General hospital for mental assessment before he is charged with murder.

The case will be mentioned on 5th September 2017.
