Two arrested over attempt to burn Kongowea market

Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Kisauni Mombasa have arrested two prime suspects said to be in a mission to set a blaze Kongowea market.

Police on Monday said the suspects who are believed to be members of Wakali kwanza  criminal gang, were nabbed at midnight as they were entering the main gate.

Kisauni police boss Christopher Rotich told Baraka FM on phone that police had earlier received intelligence information over the matter and that’s when they moved fast to salvage the situation.

“We had information about the incident,we moved faster and that’s when we managed to arrest two suspects,the CID has taken over the case and investigations are ongoing,” said police boss.

He said security has been beefed up in Kisauni and its environs warning protesters to keep off or face dire consequences.

“We are warning all those planning to participate in illegal demonstrations,police are on high alert and we have increased patrols,we are urging everyone to maintain peace,”he added.

Last year in August, President Uhuru Kenyatta  opened the new Kongowea market building which was constructed by the National government at a cost of sh.444 million.

Meanwhile, members of the public over the weekend killed a suspected notorious robber in Likoni.

The deceased identified  as “Tinted” was cornered and killed before he was set a blaze around Likoni secondary area.

Likoni police boss Benjamin Rotich confirmed to Baraka FM that the suspect was on the list of the most wanted, following series of robberies in the area.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect had threatened to butcher a businessman after attacking him,the suspect was armed with two machetes at the time he was killed.

The body was moved to coast general morgue.
