No Kenyan should die because of an election! Say envoys

Nairobi, KENYA: Heads of mission in the country have urged electoral players to give time the Independent Electoral and Boundaries commission ,IEBC ample time to complete the exercise of counting of votes.

In a media briefing on Friday at the Bomas of Kenya led by America ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec,they urged all players involved in the electoral process to allow IEBC to conclude its constitutional mandate of tallying presidential votes.

“It is now vital IEBC be given space to complete space its task and make final declaration of results in line with kenyas constitution and with the laws and regulations that govern it.” He said.

He urged any aggrieved party on tallying of votes to use appropriate constitutional bodies in channelling their plight .

“If there are then disputes or disagreements ,the Kenya constitution is very clear on how to handle them ,violence must not be an option .No Kenyan should die because of an election.” Godec said.

On the other hand ,the gender commission has applauded Kenyans for scaling up number of women who have been elected in various positions in the just concluded general elections.

Addressing the media at Bomas of Kenya, gender commission chair Winfred Lichuma said that such initiative is a key factor in the country’s development.

In gubernatorial positions ,three women were elected,three senators 23 members of parliament and 96 members of county assemblies .
