Kilifi, KENYA: Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi has said the only way President Uhuru Kenyatta will be able to arrest him, is if he is able to prove in court that he is guilty of corruption.

This comes after President Kenyatta during his Kilifi Jubilee rally, said  that he would jail governor Kingi after the August 8 polls.

Speaking in Kilifi on Wednesday, Kingi said he is terrified by the sentiments as the court has the sole decision to declare him innocent or guilty.

“I want to tell you (President Kenyatta) that the Nyayo era is over. The court will listen to me and decide based on tangible evidence on whether to throw me to jail or not. I know you want to misuse your powers to manipulate the judiciary to judge me in your favor but have in mind that we will not sit back and watch you do that,” Kingi said.

Kingi said he has so far received less than sh. 36 billion, contrary to what President Kenyatta reckons.

“I have not received that money Kenyatta says I have for the past four years,” he said.

“Uhuru is yelling all this because he knows very well that he has no votes in Kilifi County,” he added.

On Tuesday while addressing residents in Rabai sub-county, President Uhuru Kenyatta accused Kingi  of embezzling and misappropriating county funds allocation and vowed to jail him.

He said Kingi cannot account for at least sh. 40 billion he has received for his County since the inception of County government in 2013.

“I assure you that among the governors who will be jailed, your governor (Kingi) is one of them,” President Kenyatta was quoted saying.
