Kisauni police gun down suspected thief in botched robbery

Mombasa, KENYA: Police in Kisauni on Thursday killed an armed suspected robber and recovered machetes during a botched robbery in the area.

The suspect according to police was in a company of five others who had broken into a businessman man’s house in Mkomani Kongowea area.

Kisauni police boss Christopher Rotich said the suspects had drugged two guards and locked them into a room before they carried on with their plan.

The businessman who is of Indian origin identified as Phares Patel raised an alarm attracting police officers who were on patrol along that area.

He said the gang retaliated when they were confronted forcing the police to gun down one suspect.

“One was shot dead after he tried to attack our officers,the officers acted swiftly and gunned him down,”said the police boss.

Four others escaped and a manhunt has been launched as police believe they escaped with bullet injuries.

Two guards Musa Siayo and Abdallah Kazungu are recuperating at Coast General hospital but police said they are now in stable condition.

The body of the deceased was moved to Coast General morgue awaiting postmortem.
