Mombasa,KENYA:Security officials  Monday gave  a stern  warning to the few criminal gangs that are said to  have remained in the Old Town neighborhood  of Mombasa.

The warning comes barely a day after notorious ring gang suspect Mohammed Shekune alias Bobocha was lynched by an irate mob on Sunday in  the Old town area.

Eye witnesses say Bobocha was cornered by the irate mob after stealing a cell phone from a  victim in the Makadara are.

Police are also holding  other five wanted criminals suspects arrested on Saturday in the Old town area. The 5 are said to be accomplices of the late Bobocha.

Mombasa deputy county commissioner Mohammed Salim asked the few who are still at large to surrender warning them that their days were numbered.

According to eye witnesses who did not want to be named,The gang has also gone to an extent of extorting money from tuktuk drivers who are non locals operating in the old town area.

“Most of the gangs we are looking are fugitives, they are on the run, some are even visitors in the area and they have  caused havoc,we are asking them to surrender as the war on criminal gangs has gained momentum,”said the DCC.

He asked the politicians who were present to keep off from security matters and concentrate on politics.

“We won’t allow few individuals to terrorize over 40 million people, we will deal with them,”added mr Salim.

Police say they are looking for 3 suspects who are said to be accomplices of the late Bobocha who are believed to have  escaped the Irate mob that lynched Bobocha by jumping into the Indian ocean waters after escaping police dragnet in their hide out.

Sources within the  police service said the late suspect is said to head a gang of  atleast ten feared  suspected criminals in the Old town area.
