Kilifi, KENYA: Detectives in Kilifi have rolled out investigations on the death of an Administration Police officer in Takaungu, a few miles from the Kilifi Police headquarters, south of Kilifi County.

The incident occurred in the wee hours of Saturday morning where the deceased is said to have shot himself dead on completion of his night patrol shift.

The deceased colleagues in the station told Baraka FM on Sunday, that the officer was jovial and showed no signs of stress that would lead to his death.

They said the deceased attended to his duties as usual and returned to his house in the station at around 2 am, but a moment later they heard a gunshot, only to find out he had shot himself dead.

“He (the deceased) was jovial all day and showed no signs of distress at all. His death has touched everyone in this station and the police fraternity,”  said an officer, who did not want his identity.

Kilifi County Administration Police Commander, Elisha Ng’etich said detectives are investigating the matter and are yet to establish the cause of the officer’s death.

He said the name of the deceased is withheld until the family is made aware of the incidence.

“I had no information of distress from the deceased. He was jovial as usual and attended to his duties as required but then that’s what happened and detectives are up on the issue. We will inform you as things unfold,” said Ng’etich.

The deceased body is preserved at the Kilifi County hospital pending autopsy.
