Kenyan Premier League KPL’s most successful club Gor Mahia will be the first East African football team to play an opponent from Europe when they tackle Everton FC from England.
K’ogalo booked a date with the English Premier League club after trouncing local rivals AFC Leopards 3-0 in the inaugural Sportpesa Super Cup final held in Uhuru Stadium, Tanzania on Sunday.
Everton shortly after the result confirmed they will play Gor Mahia in a preseason match by posting through their twitter account, ”The Blues will face @OfficialGMFC next month and become the first @premierleague side to play in Tanzania,”.
The match scheduled for July 13 is organized by Kenyan betting firm Sportpesa who recently inked a multimillion shirt sponsorship deal with Everton, which the club in a statement termed as the best in their history.
Meanwhile, the Sportpesa Super Cup which featured eight teams, four apiece from hosts Tanzania and Kenya saw winners Gor Mahia rewarded with Sh3m while runners up AFC Leopards settled for Sh1m.
