Treasury not released money to pay doctors, COG

Nairobi,KENYA:The council of governors says the National Treasury has not released  doctors  salaries and allowances for the three months they were on strike.

In a letter addressed to the public service department,Peter Munya ,the chairman  of the council of governors urged the National Treasury to release the money to the counties.

“The National Treasury has to provide the said resources to enable counties to pay the doctors,” Munya said in the letter.

Earlier on Munya had said that  counties won’t pay the doctors for work not done.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also urged the counties to pay the doctors their salaries and allowances for the three months they were on strike while threatening to fire the doctors if they   went on strike again.

Tana River  county governor,Hussein Dhado agreed to pay the doctors in his county.

Payments of their salaries  and allowances for the 3 months they were on strike was one of the conditions in the return to work formula before they ended their strike.
