National men’s soccer team Harambee Stars played out to a barren draw with visiting Malawi in a friendly match staged at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos on Tuesday.

Head coach Stanley Okumbi involved only local based players in the tie in a bid to build a team which will do duty for the country in next year’s Africa Nations Championship CHAN to be held in Kenya.

Ahead of the clash, Harambee Stars was rocked by the decision by some clubs declining to release their players, Gor Mahia leading with five players who failed to show up for national duties.

Newly elected CAF President Ahmad Ahmed from Madagascar were among the dignitaries who watched from the stand as Kenya and Malawi both fire blank.

This was the third friendly match for Harambee Stars in a span of one month, having hosted Uganda and DR Congo last month.
