Nairobi,KENYA:The United Kingdom (UK) has issued travel alert to its citizens touring the country during the campaign period and the election period.
According to the warning issued on Wednesday, the citizens were advised to avoid large gatherings and areas where political rallies were taking place.
The advisory further urged it’s citizens to seek for further guidance before traveling to Kenya.
This has been received well by tourism stakeholders in Mombasa who say that every country in the world has a right of protecting its citizens.
The Kenya Association of Hotel keepers and Caterers Coast branch executive officer, Mr. Sam Ikwaye said that Kenyans had also been informed to be vigilant and to avoid political rallies that might ignite chaos.
“ The warning by the British Government is okay because even Kenyans have taken it seriously , and if you look around, the number of investors are reducing. Its as if many Kenyans are on the look-out on how the August general election will turnout”. He said.
The warning which has come barely a week after a similar one was issued by the US, may however not have a negative effect on the tourism sector in the country, noting that most hotels in the region were at 75% booking rate during the Easter season which is an increase in comparison to a time like now last year.
“We hope that this warnings will not have a negative effect on tourists visiting the country this year because we have tightened our security by having police oficers who are vigil and and investing in security gudgets and that has contributed to the prevailing peace in the region. Said , Mr. Ikwaye
