Officer charged in court for being in possession of illegal bullets

Mombasa, KENYA: A police officer was on Monday charged in a Mombasa court for allegedly being in possession of ammunition without a firearm certificate.

Court heard that on the 8th of April, 2017 at Makupa police station in Mombasa County without reasonable excuse, Kamito Conrad possessed a holster containing a magazine with 5 rounds of ammunition.

Mr.Conrad pleaded not guilty to the charges before Mombasa senior principal magistrate Charles Ndegwa.
He is alleged to have intended to use the ammunition in a manner prejudiced to public order.

A source who spoke to Baraka FM on condition of anonymity, said the police officer worked at Nakuru Central police and he had been transferred to Kwale police station.

He further said that Mr. Conrad had not reported to Kwale police but documents showed he was cleared at Nakuru Central police.

A source among the police officers who arrested the suspect, also said the ammunition  the suspect allegedly possessed, were not from the Kenya police.
