Nairobi,KENYA:Activist Boniface Mwangi recently launched his party the Ukweli party which he will be using to seek the Starehe parliamentary seat in Nairobi County.

However what caught the attention of many was his party symbol which is sugarcane, which was unveiled and laid on the table during the launch.

“We want to bring change from the bottom up and cultivate participatory democracy beyond mere participation in elections but in the day-to-day governance,” Mwangi said during the launch.

However, the activist has explained that the reason he launched his party slogan is power for the people and the reason why he picked sugarcane was to make Kenya sweeter for Kenyans.

Mwangi also clarified during the launch that the party would not get into coalitions with other parties and it would only produce candidates in parliamentary and country assembly seats across the country.

Mwangi is looking to edge out the incumbent Starehe MP Maina Kamanda while competing with others like flamboyant businessman Steve Mbogo who is vying on an ODM ticket and Musician Charles Kanyi Njagua (Jaguar).
