Nairobi, KENYA: A total of 20 goals were patched from the six matches played in the Kenyan Premier League 2017 season opener staged in different venues across the country over the weekend.

Defending champions Tusker made headlines for all the wrong reasons after they were whacked by newcomers Nzoia United 5-2 in a seven goal thriller clash played at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Saturday.

Despite lining up the side that wrestled the title from Gor Mahia last season, the Brewers could not contain a determined and ruthless Nzoia side which made count every opportunity that came their way.

The result meant immediate former champions Gor Mahia could not relent but bank on by kick-starting their campaign with a 3-1 slaying of promoted side Kariobangi Sharks at Thika Stadium on Sunday.

Mathare United had earlier survived a scare from host Thika United to register a 3-2 victory at the same venue, while Chemelil Sugar wer 2-0 winners over Sony Sugar at Awendo Green Stadium.

At Mombasa’s Mbaraki Stadium, Paul Nkata guided Bandari to beat newbies Nakumatt FC by a solitary goal scored by new signing Enock Agwanda on Saturday.

The league will enters its match-week two next weekend with seven matches on the cards.
