Nairobi, KENYA: Orange Democratic Party has vehemently condemned President Uhuru Kenyatta’s move of blocking Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho from attending the Mtongwe Ferry launch and hurling insults to the governor.

In a media briefing at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Monday led by party’s chair John Mbadi, they said the move by the state to bar Joho from attending such an event in his county goes against the spirit of the new constitution.

“Yesterday, during their rally at Tononoka in Mombasa they all turned the event into a governor Ali Joho bashing platform. Every speaker used the platform to insult the governor and our party leader. But today when governor Joho sought to make the record straight they sent a battalion of GSU officers to barricade his residence and his office.” Mbadi said.

He slammed the president over what he termed as consistent bashing of governors especially governor Joho and Turkana governor Josephat Nanok due to what they stand for.

“The ODM party will not allow any further unwarranted treatment our leaders are being subjected to by Jubilee regime.Going to counties to insult ,harrass and intimidate governors who are working round clock to ensure service delivery is unacceptable.” He said.

They demanded that President Uhuru  stop making inflammatory statements adding that the presidency is a national office outfit which must accommodate and serve every Kenyan.
