Mombasa,KENYA: President Uhuru Kenyatta has strongly told off the Mombasa governor Hassan Joho for attempting to attend the relaunch of the Mtongwe Ferry services without an invitation.
The president who was speaking during the event on Monday at the Mtongwe area of Mombasa, said that the governor had a habit of attending launch of government projects because he knew he had failed the people of Mombasa.
“Why should he follow me around? Why can’t he explain what he has done during his tenure..Am I his wife?” Uhuru posed?
The president’s remarks comes just hours after the Mombasa governor who had earlier said he would attend the relaunch, failed to attend the event saying that police officers had told him they had orders to prevent him from attending.
In a video posted online, the governor together with the Kisauni legislator Rashid Bedzimba are seen confronting police officers over their alleged move to prevent him.
However, police officers who were manning the road refuted the allegations saying that they were just conducting a routine traffic check-up.
The Mtongwe ferry service was relaunched today (Monday) after being out of operation for over 6 years and it is expected to ease congestion at the Likoni crossing channel.
