Mombasa, KENYA: Hundreds of women groups from four counties in the coast region have received training on entrepreneurship skills and how to invest wisely.

The training organized by Post Bank aims at improving the lives of the women through saving internal and lending.

Speaking during the one day workshop at Mariakani Kilifi County on Tuesday, head of the project dubbed SILC –Saving Internal and Lending Community, Sammy Maraga, said their aim is to see women flourish in life.

Maraga says they instill business knowledge into women, like how to invest, how to save money and invest it, profitable projects they can venture into and improve their lives at large.

“Currently we have more than five thousands women groups, and they have really improved, women are doing businesses, they are educating their children, they are building houses through this SILC project,” said Maraga.

Post bank head of projects Jacinta Kasingiu, said through the projects, women have gained confidence on the security of their finances through the M-Chama project.

She added that women have really appreciated mobile banking as they can now do transactions at home.

“Because of the transparency of the account, the members of the Chama or SILC have gained more confidence as they are assured their money is safe. So this account has removed the table banking thing as it’s easy for money to get lost mischievously” said Jacinta.

Women who attended the training applauded Post Bank for the initiative, saying it has really improved their lives.

One Miss Liz Munyazi, a chairlady of Maendeleo SILC Group, says many members now have built houses, paid their children school fees, and have invested in businesses.

“It’s five years now since we started this SILC group and now we have more than 70 members, and every member has benefited. Myself I have educated my young sister, I have built my own house and also I have an active business” said Liz.
