Mombasa, KENYA: Detectives in Likoni have arrested another suspect linked to the stolen G3 firearm  at Likoni police station in October last year.

The arrest of Mohammed Rashid Chambey, 42,  adds the list of suspects to two, after his alleged accomplice  Rahma Ali Banana,30, was arrested last year in possession of the modified firearm.

The latter is said to be the mastermind of the stolen gun as he was the one who broke into the police room and took the firearm loaded with 20 rounds.

CID officers who have been tracking the suspect, arrested him at his house in Mrima area on Tuesday night.

Police said two other suspects are at large.

Likoni DCIO boss Henry Ndombi confirmed the arrest of the suspect saying it was a breakthrough.

“We can confirm the arrest of the suspect and this is a breakthrough for us and the entire team. The firearm was used to carry out a series of robberies in the sub-county,” said the DCI boss.

The stolen riffle of serial number 77097156 belonged to police constable Alexander Kipyegomen who was later arrested and  charged in Court for loosing a firearm; the officer was suspended for being irresponsible.
