Nairobi, KENYA: The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC is expected to register 4 million to 6 million new voters in the upcoming mass voter registration that will kick off next Monday.

IEBC had projected 22 million voters by 2017 General Elections.

Approximately 16 million voters have been registered so far by the electoral body.

14.4 million Kenyans enrolled as voters prior to the March 2013 polls.

“We are also targeting 9 million people who have been issued with National IDs but are yet to register for the August polls, “remarked CEO Ezra Chiloba on Monday during a Media Consultative Forum on Voter registration in Nairobi.

Mr. Chiloba said that IEBC is expected to work with over 15,000 personnel to make the registration a success.

The 30 day drive is the final mass voter registration as Kenyans head to the next general elections to be held in August.

This will be the second general elections under the new Constitution.
