Entertainment joint owners employing underage children to be prosecuted

Lamu, KENYA: Owners of entertainment joints in Lamu who shall be found employing underage and school going children during this festive season will be prosecuted.

The same goes for owners of guest houses who shall be found accommodating underage girls; to be used for sexual escapades by guests in the respective guest houses.

Lamu county commissioner Joseph Kanyiri has also asked all entertainment joint owners to conduct thorough searches on each and every person coming into their premises.

Speaking in his Lamu office on Wednesday,Kanyiri said law breakers shall not be tolerated during this festive season at a time when Lamu is witnessing an increased number of tourists and visitors for the Christmas, Maulid and New Year celebrations.

Kanyiri said there is also need for all owners of entertainment joints to keep updated records of all their clients and customers in order to enable for easy security checks.

“We are keeping a close eye one entertainment joints.we are on the lookout for people who allow their customers to bring in young underage girls for their dirty escapades.we must enforce the law by all means,” said Kanyiri.

In the meantime, security in Lamu has been heightened as visitors continue to troop in for the Maulid celebrations that’s kick off Tuesday.

Kanyiri said adequate officers have been deployed all over in order to ensure the celebrations are uninterrupted.

He urged locals to embrace the Nyumba Kumi initiative in order to enhance security.

The Maulid festival is marked annually by a section of Muslims in remembrance of the birth of prophet Mohamed in the holy city of Mecca in 570AD.

The festival is marked every third month of the Islamic calendar.

Over 20,000 visitors have already arrived in Lamu for the same.
