Ugandan Dennis Onyango beats Arsenal’s Petr Cech in keeper rankings

SWITZERLAND:Uganda Cranes goalkeepers Denis Onyango has beaten some elite goaltenders, among them Arsenal’s Petr Cech to break into World’s top 10 best goalkeepers according to the 2016 rankings.

In the list released by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS), Onyango who ply his trade with South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, is ranked 10th with 5 points.

This is one place off Arsenal’s Petr Cech of Czech Republic and FC Barcelona’s German keeper Marc Andre Ter Stegen who are 11th and 13th with 4 and 1 point respectively.

In 2016, Onyango had a fantastic season where he won the South African Premier League and the CAF Champions League with club Mamelodi Sundowns.

The flair saw him nominated for the CAF Player of the Year Awards for players based in Africa.

Germany and Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer retains his spot as the World’s best goalie with 156 points, the fourth time in succession, equaling Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus and Italy who is ranked second with 91 points.

In the English Premier League, Manchester City’s Claudio Bravo (4th) Manchester United and Spain goalie David De Gea are ranked as the best at 5th.
