Mombasa,KENYA: Residents of Mtongwe in Mombasa will have to wait longer for ferry services.
In a signed statement, Kenya ferry service (KFS) says the planned commencement of ferry services in the area has been postponed.
However, it did state the reasons for the postponement.
It had been slated to begin operations this month and was expected to ease congestion in Likoni crossing channel.
On April 29, 1994, the MV Mtongwe ferry bound for the mainland, capsized just 40 meters from port, killing 272 of the 400 people on-board.
Since the Mtongwe ferry disaster, services on the route have been an on and off affair.
