Nairobi, KENYA: Chemelil Sugar edged defending champions Mathare United 2-0 on Monday at the Camp Toyoyo stadium Nairobi, to qualify for the quarter finals of the Kenya Premier League KPL U-20 tournament for the December edition.
A goal in either half from Mohammed Mulisya saw the Millers register their second victory on the spin to become the first team to book quarters slot with a match to spare.
The defeat leaves Mathare United with a must win when they take on Sony Sugar on Wednesday in their last group match, should they have any hopes of qualifying for the last eight.
Elsewhere, the April edition champions Ulinzi Stars responded to their 1-0 defeat to Western Stima in the opener with a comfortable 4-1 victory over Posta Rangers.
Anything less than maximum points could have seen Ulinzi bowed of the tournament but with the win, they only need to avoid defeat when they come up against Gor Mahia in their last group match to coast to the quarter finals.
Kenya Premier League KPL U-20 tournament is organized and run by the league governing body KPL during holidays with all the 16 top tier teams eligible to field a team each.
