Mombasa, KENYA: At least four people have been reported dead and more than 20 others injured after a bus belonging to TSS company lost control and plunged into a valley in Bonje, Mazeras.
Witnesses say the bus that left Nairobi on Thursday night, was almost reaching Mombasa when the break system failed, forcing the driver to direct it towards a nearby valley.
The injured were rushed to Coast general hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The Coast traffic commandant Emmanuel Okanda confirmed the incident saying rescue operations were ongoing at the 6 am incident, since there were passengers trapped in the bus.
This comes just after another Mombasa bound Bus Modern Coast caught fire on Wednesday, December 14 at Kyulu area in Makueni County.
According to the bus company, no passengers were injured during the incident.
“We would like to let you know one of our buses has burnt down en route Nairobi. It left Mombasa at 8:30am. All passengers were evacuated on time and are safe. Recovery bus (has been) sent. We apologise for that. The cause of fire is not known yet,” said Modern Coast management in a presser.
So far a number of accidents have been reported during this festive season, with the latest one being along Nairobi-Nakuru highway, where 39 people died and scores of others injured following a multiple road accident.
