Mombasa,KENYA:Safaricom foundation has invested over Ksh. 355 Million in Coast region through Mpesa foundation aimed at transforming the lives of the local communities in the past 10 years.
Speaking in a quarterly meeting with their partners in Mombasa, Safaricom Foundation Chairman Mr.Joseph Ogutu, called on their partners in the Coast to make a strong contribution towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development goals -SDGs.
Mr. Ogutu said also urged their partners from the six coastal counties i.e Mombasa, Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Tana River, Kwale and Lamu to make a contributions towards achieving the goals.
“We are glad to be implementing transformative projects that are aligned to our vision of transforming lives as well as aligned to the country’s economic blueprint –vision 2030” said Mr. Ogutu.
He said one project already transforming lives is the rehabilitation of Nyalani dam in Kwale at a cost of sh. 207Million.
The foundation also trained more than 800 youths in the region on business plan, proper accounts bookkeeping and they are targeting 1,500 youths.
“We’ve mainly focused on youth because of the big problem of unemployment,” added Ogutu.
The forum focused on sharing development experiences in the coast region, localizing the Sustainable development goals.
