Mombasa, KENYA: Kenya revived its semi-final hopes in the men’s soccer in the ongoing East Africa inter Parliamentary Games by beating Tanzania 1-0 at the Mbaraki Sports Club on Wednesday.
Victory was a must for Kenya who had lost by a similar score-line to Uganda in their opening match, and indeed they delivered thanks to Rodgers Okwiri who scored the solitary goal.
The match was however marred with drama with Tanzanians claiming the hosts were being favored after they were awarded two penalties which they failed to convert.
Rodger Okwiri and Stephen Njata both saw their spot kicks hit the bar despite Kenya desperately needing more goals to confirm their place in the last four.
The result leaves Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania tied on three points each after two matches but Uganda and Tanzania have superior goal difference and better head to head record.
Elsewhere, Kenya cruised to Thursday’s semi-final in men’s volleyball after overpowering Tanzania 2-0 (25-16, 25-23) at the KPA Makande Gymnasium.
Kenya who are the defending champions had coasted past Uganda with similar sets in their first match on Tuesday.
