Mombasa, KENYA: Security has been beefed up in the county as more police officers  have been drawn from different departments  to help heighten security during the December holiday.

The assurance comes barely a week after Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet issued a terror alert on Alshabbab planning to carry out attacks due to the ongoing rains.

Mombasa was one of the hot spots pointed out following intelligence reports.

Mombasa county commisioner Evans Achoki on Friday made the assurance saying his officers were extra alert and public need not to panic.

He made the assurance after meeting with top security bosses in the county and private security firms, where they launched hotlines numbers which will be used for any distress calls.

“The numbers are expected to be active from now,” said Mr Achoki.

The numbers are :0733969999,0780966099 and 073226833.

The county Commisioner said officers from KWS,Regular police,Adminstraion police have already been deployed to variouis places in Mombasa, to respond to attacks in many locations at any time.

He said that in social places where crowds are expected to converge, there will be thorough body searches on everyone and the public has been urged to cooperate.

The county boss also put on notice officers at Moi airport to be extra vigilant, adding that his officers will not leave anything to chance.

Other areas which will be provided with security, are churches shopping malls and beaches, according to Mr Achoki.

He asked church leaders to seek security at a near police station before any convergence.

“We know churches will have many activities in his fesive season,we are asking them to alert police earlier so that security is provided,”said Mr Achoki.
