Nairobi, KENYA: Kenya’s women’s Sevens rugby team Lionesses has qualified for the quarter finals of the Dubai 7s tournament after stunning Ireland 20-12 in their final group match played Thursday evening.
The victory was Lionesses’ third in four matches and saw them bounced back from 14-19 defeat they had suffered to Poland in the second match of the invitational tournament.
The Kevin Wambua coached side had beaten Belgium 17-12 before humbling Tribe 14-7 keeping a live their hopes of clinching the title for the first time.
Lionesses will now take on Tabusoro Angels in quarters on Friday.
Meanwhile men’s team Shujaa will open their Dubai Sevens campaign with a match against France before taking on Japan and later play Australia in their final group match.
All matches are slated for Friday.
