COLOMBIA: A plane carrying Brazilian football club Chapecoense crashed late Monday while approaching Colombian city of Medellin.
According to the international media reports, the chattered aircraft had 81 people on board among them club’s players.
It’s reported that the plane crushed due to electrical problems with only six surviving.
Chapeocoense, a Brazilian club, was headed to Colombia for a Copa Libertadores first leg final against hosts Atletico Nacional that had been scheduled for Wednesday night.
The club, which earned its promotion to Brazil’s first division in 2014, reached the final last week following victory over Argentina’s San Lorenzo.
The Copa Libertadores de América is an annual international club football competition organized by CONMEBOL since 1960.
It is the most prestigious club competition in Latin American football bringing drawing together clubs from 10 member nations.
