Nairobi, KENYA: Women parliamentarians want Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaisserry and Inspector General of police Joseph Boinnet, to take swift action against Laikipia North MP Mathew Lempurkel for allegedly attacking nominated MP Sarah Korere at Harambee house on Monday.
Led by Taveta MP Dr Naom Shaaban and Muranga Women Represantative Sabina Chege, they urged the government to act swiftly and arrest the legislator over what they termed as gross misconduct.
Dr Shabaan accused the government for taking too long to arrest the MP, following the fact that the incident transpired at Harambee house.
They urged the government to beef up Korere’s security detail after indicating that she has been receiving threatening and derogatoey text messages from the said MP, pointing that the matter has been forwarded to the police.
Dr Shaaban urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to ban legislators who assault women ,from vying for electoral posts come 2017.
