Lamu, KENYA: A high school principal in Lamu is nursing serious injuries after she was involved in an accident as she rushed to pick Tuesday’s KCSE exam papers in Mpeketoni.
Mkunumbi secondary school principal Martha Kiminza sustained fatal injuries on her head and limbs after a motorcycle she had boarded slid and rolled over on the tarmac.
Confirming the incident on Tuesday,Lamu county deputy county commissioner Stephen Sangolo however said they were forced to make emergency plans to ensure the exams reached the school’s deputy principal.
He said the situation did not affected the exam schedules and that the students proceeded with their exams as expected.
“We called KNEC and thy agreed to allow the deputy head to temporarily take over the duty of collecting exams as the principal recovers,”said Sangolo.
The principal whose injuries have been classifies as serious, has so far been referred to the coast general hospital from the Mpeketoni sub-district hospital for specialized treatment.
Sangolo said there were no exam irregularities that had been recorded in Lamu since the exams kicked off two weeks ago.
